Mark, a 66 year old retired tool and die maker from General Motors, lost 12 pounds AND even more impressively… his stubborn belly fat with intermittent fasting.
Yup, you heard that right! The power of intermittent fasting makes it totally possible to achieve a flat belly, even if you’re over 50, 60, or more.
How Mark Lost 12 Pounds and his Stubborn Belly Fat with Fasting!
In this post, you’ll learn the unique fasting tips, tricks, and methods Mark used to achieve incredible success with intermittent fasting – at 66 years old!
Mark’s Top 3 Intermittent Fasting Wins
Mark has experienced many wins with intermittent fasting but his top three are as follows:
- #1 WEIGHT LOSS and a FLAT BELLY – Mark was ecstatic to reach his weight loss goals with intermittent fasting. He lost 12 pounds and his stubborn belly fat. Those were two goals that, at 66 years old, he thought were out of reach and “just part of his DNA.” Needless to say, he was very pleasantly surprised.
- #2 INCREASED ENERGY – Mark feels less sluggish. Intermittent fasting provides Mark with balanced energy levels throughout the day.
- #3 INCREASED HYDRATION – Mark has found that intermittent fasting has really helped him to improve his daily hydration habits. He enjoys drinking ice water and finds that it also really helps him keep his appetite and cravings under control.
Preferred Intermittent Fasting Method – 18:6
Mark has found incredible success with the 18:6 intermittent fasting method. He first began his fasting journey following the 16:8 method but soon hit a frustrating weight loss plateau.
Mark then decided to slowly bump up his intermittent fasting schedule and found that fasting for at least 18 hours daily made a HUGE difference.
Shortly after switching to 18+ hours of daily fasting, Mark lost 12 pounds and hit his goal weight.
Mark keeps busy from the time he wakes up until he breaks his fast for the day. He enjoys drinking coffee with his wife, Claire, when he first gets up. Mark then passes the time with a 3 mile walk, followed by an hour long jam session where he plays his guitar in his home studio.
After showering, Mark generally breaks his fast for the day around noon and closes his eating window around 6:00 PM each day.
Biggest Challenge with Intermittent Fasting
Mark is faced with his biggest challenges with intermittent fasting when he is on vacation, away from his daily routine, and around other people who don’t fast.
When he’s home, Mark has been able to easily stick to his typical 18:6 intermittent fasting schedule – no problem.
Being on vacation and being around other people, however, brings on a few challenges including: being around people who don’t fast and/or don’t want to understand fasting, the temptations of wanting to eat more often on vacation, and simply just being out of his element and away from his regular routine.
Fasting Window Favorites
Mark chooses to “FAST CLEAN” during his fasting window. He used to put creamer in his coffee, but cut that out right away. And, within a very short amount of time, he got used to the taste of drinking his coffee black.
Mark sticks to black coffee during his morning fasting hours and ice water for the remainder of the day.
Eating Window Favorites
Mark begins eating each day around noon and LOVES to open his eating window with a giant bowl of oatmeal loaded with walnuts, raisins, raspberries and other fun and healthy mix-ins.
Throughout the day, during his 6 hour eating window, Mark enjoys snacking on mixed nuts and fresh fruits. He finds the salted nuts and fruit to be extremely delicious, filling and satisfying.
Finally, Mark and his wife, Claire, enjoy a nice dinner of whatever they are in the mood for that evening. He then, usually takes his last bite of food for the day around 6:00 PM.
Mark’s Exercise Routine
Mark enjoys walking 3+ miles in the morning with his wife while he is still in the fasted state. He has found that walking for about an hour each day, not only clears his head, but it’s a great way to pass the time and easily breeze through his fasting window.
Intermittent Fasting Insights
Mark enjoys living an intermittent fasting lifestyle for so many reasons including:
- SIMPLICITY – “I really like intermittent fasting because it’s simple and just easy to do. I don’t have to keep track of a whole bunch of stuff in my head.”
- MINDFUL EATING – “Intermittent fasting has really helped me to tune into hunger cues and recognize when I’m really hungry and not just eating out of habit or boredom.”
- FLEXIBILITY – “Since I’ve lost down to my goal weight, I can make occasional exceptions like eating a bowl of popcorn at night, without feeling guilty or deprived and still maintain my weight.”
MARK’S SHINIEST GEM
- Mark believes that STAYING ACTIVE is a big key to intermittent fasting success. “Get up, move, and be active because when you’re busy you won’t even think about being hungry and it makes fasting that much easier.”
