Mary’s Top 3 Intermittent Fasting Wins
Mary has experienced many wins with intermittent fasting but her top three are as follows:
- #1 WEIGHT LOSS – Mary lost an incredible 100 pounds in 14 months with intermittent fasting.
- #2 IMPROVED BODY RECOMPOSITION – Mary lost a remarkable 64 total inches and improved her body composition. She greatly reduced her body fat percentage and increased her lean body mass
- #3 IMPROVED GUT HEALTH – Intermittent fasting has greatly improved Mary’s gut health. Additionally, Mary suffered from severe Acid Reflux disease for many years and fasting completely knocked it out – NO MORE ACID REFLUX – YAY!
Preferred Intermittent Fasting Method – OMAD/ 19:5
Mary, like her mom, (Amy, who also found incredible success with intermittent fasting) has found success using the OMAD or One Meal a Day intermittent fasting method.
Mary’s “golden eating window” hours are from about 3pm – 8pm daily. However, she has come to discover through some serious trial and error that…
- Although those are her typical GO-TO eating hours, she has realized that mixing it up once in awhile is very important. If she hits a weight loss plateau or feels like she’s stuck, Mary likes to shake things up a bit when it comes to her intermittent fasting schedule.
- She does not feel well if she eats past 8pm so, although she occasionally makes an exception, she most often tries to wrap up her eating window by 8pm.
- OMAD doesn’t have to mean just one gigantic meal within a one hour period. Mary enjoys starting with a small snack at the beginning of her eating period and then easing into her large meal for the day.
- Mary hasn’t felt like she’s really needed a fasting app or tracker and this is because consistently sticking to her 3pm-8pm schedule keeps her accountable and on track.
Biggest Challenge with Intermittent Fasting
Mary’s biggest challenge with intermittent fasting is being around others who don’t fast. She’s also found that many of her young friends have never heard of intermittent fasting and don’t fully understand what it is.
Mary often gets pressured by friends to break her fast early and “go get ice cream” or other fun treats. She’s also struggled with negative comments from those friends like “you’re starving yourself,” “that’s not healthy” or “you have an eating disorder.”
Mary has embraced that intermittent fasting is working for her. She struggled more at the beginning of her “IF” journey, but now realizes that the negative comments from those people are not personal or meant to be cruel. Instead, they are coming from a lack of understanding about fasting.
Fasting Window Favorites
Mary gave up all of the fancy drinks from Starbucks, as well as her love for Coke and Pepsi and began “FASTING CLEAN” during her fasting window. She keeps it simple and enjoys sticking to plain water during her daily fasting period.
However, Mary LOVES (just like I do) adding the LMNT Electrolyte Supplement to her water. It gives her more energy and helps her to fast easier and longer. She of course uses the raw, zero-calorie, unflavored one so that it absolutely does not break her fast.
Mary said she no longer enjoys drinking her calories – “it’s just not worth it to me anymore.”
Eating Window Favorites
Mary said she ate like total garbage at the beginning of her “IF” weight loss journey but quickly realized she wasn’t having much success.
Once she ditched the junk and started to eat a low-carb, high-protein diet packed with a variety of healthy foods (especially vegetables) she started to experience incredible progress and success.
Mary usually feels good when she breaks her fast with a healthy protein or a veggie of some sort. She enjoys starting with a small snack and easing into her one larger meal for the day.
Finally, she has a sweet tooth so enjoys closing her eating window with fruit (grapes or raspberries) topped with a little whipped cream.
She also loves to end her eating window with a healthy dark chocolate, Vegan HU Bar. YUM!
Intermittent Fasting Exercise Routine
Mary prefers to exercise in the “fasted state.” She especially enjoys…
- PILATES – Mary has really been enjoying pilates and loves to pop in a 20-30 minute pilates video and get to it.
- RUNNING – Mary has recently added running to her exercise routine and even has a goal to run her first marathon soon.
MARY’S SHINIEST GEM
- Mary believes that PATIENCE IS KEY when it comes to success with intermittent fasting.
It’s so important to realize that intermittent fasting is not a CRASH or FAD diet that will yield results overnight. Intermittent fasting is healthy, consistent, sustainable, and it works.
It’s takes time but it’s definitely worth the journey and the wait, which is why “TODAY SHOULD BE YOUR DAY ONE!”
